Tired of the old "Poster Project" ... spice it up with Glogster!
This page is the result of my inquiry into using video online with students. I considered both teacher and student use of the technology, and the technological scenarios possible in schools (from "low-tech" to "Venti" as discussed in the textbook). In the end, I feel that a Glog Is a good choice for the teacher looking for an alternative to having students create a poster.
The embedded page below (http://hometown.edu.glogster.com/intro/) was created with Blogster - an online poster-creation tool. I signed up for the free version (Glogster edu) which allows me to include text, images and videos. The paid version also gives the teacher enhanced classroom management, the ability to post other file types such as pdf and doc, and no advertising. However, for $11.95 per month or 8.95 per year, the premium service is likely not necessary for most teachers - the free version is certainly a powerful tool.
Unfortunately, the free version does not permit the uploading of text files. In order to add the pdf file to my page (see the bottom of the Glog), I got around that restriction by sharing the pdf file that I had saved in my Dropbox public folder and then creating a link to that file from my Glog page.
As for finding content, it seems through the kist discussion of "fair use", and the code of best practices website at http://www.centerforsocialmedia.org/fair-use/related-materials/codes/code-best-practices-fair-use-media-literacy-education, students should be able to incorporate parts of media that they find online as long as they cite the source.
